Yup, its true! And goodness gracious has it been the hardest thing ever to keep a secret for this long. I found out January 19th and I think we both kind of knew (we were trying) but it was such a huge shock when the test(s) actually read positive. We are super excited! And the super cool thing that we will have to look back on is I’ve been pregnant in all my blog posts….minus the throwback of our wedding. 💖 Keeping it a secret was getting super difficult so we are super happy to finally announce. I am normally pretty skinny and it was getting harder and harder to hide my little belly that’s popped up. Andddd….a few weeks ago we went to Athens, GA for my sister in laws 21st birthday (it had been planned wayyy before we talked about getting pregnant)…talk about worst case scenario to keep a secret. The first bar we went to Ian asked the bartender to make me a virgin drink but to make it look like a vodka/water with lime. Well I guess the bartender didn’t get it because Ian came back with my drink in a water cup. 😐 Everyone comes back to the table with their drinks in cocktail glasses and immediately asks me why I’m drinking water. Ahhh…slight panic mode! I told everyone it was a double that tasted watered down and not sure why the guy put it in a water cup. I then go to the bar and have a little “chat” with the bartender who then understands and makes me a virgin cocktail in the correct size glass….I got my SIL the same drink but with alcohol and head back to the table for redemption. The drinks looked exactly the same and it clearly looked like I was drinking. (see the pic here) Phewwww…I think we pulled it off. Then the next week my sister surprised us and came to town and us girls love our wine. I decided the easiest thing for me to do was to make a big pitcher of sangria, I made myself a non-alcoholic version and had myself a glass before everyone got there…that way they wouldn’t suspect anything. Needless to say I have gotten good at fake drinking.
Figured I would do a little q&a each week or so to document…
How far along: 14 weeks, 2 days
Total weight gain: 9 pounds so far 😮 …My pre-pregnancy weight was usually around 116-120 and I am at 129 as of today. Thanks Chick-fil-A.
Maternity clothes: Not yet…although I did purchase 2 really cute dresses that I couldn’t resist. Just wish work clothes were easier to wear. Maxi dresses and palazzo pants allllll day if I could.
Symptoms: In the beginning I had moderate nausea but nothing too extreme. Preggie Pops saved my life. And my boobs have been crazy sore and have grown a full cup size…yay!
Sleep: I wish I could sleep all day. Super tired all the time and missing nap time. I’ve had a lot of nights where I’ve fallen asleep by 7pm. Finally now starting to get my energy back and feel more human.
Best moment so far: Our last sonogram appointment. Our little baby is a mover and shaker. We loved how it was dancing and flailing its arms and legs around. And I think it shocked us both at how human like it already looks.
Miss anything: Wine & hot yoga.
Food cravings: The first trimester all I wanted was bad things like skittles and cheeseburgers. And chikfila basically everyday….think that attributed to the 9 lbs I’ve already gained. Now I am craving mango’s, bananas and big salads…thank god!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Coffee & Pizza….like what the heck, my two favorite things.
Have you started to show yet: Yes, I definitely feel like I have but its that awkward bump stage where it looks more like bloat. Not cute yet!
Gender: We do know what the sex is but are keeping it a secret for now. Our doctor asked us if we wanted to take a blood test that analyzes DNA in a sample of your blood to predict the risk of Down syndrome (trisomy 21) and certain other genetic conditions. We of course said yes and found out we are having a healthy baby and will announce the sex soon. 🙂 We were soooo excited to finally tell our parents….pretty sure I was shaking. Ian’s parents were already planning on coming to town for Spring Training so we thought it would be the perfect time to tell both families at the same time. We invited them over and said it was going to be a mini housewarming party. I handed the moms a little box saying we found them a little something on a trip and they were clueless as to what it was 🙂 They proceeded to open and found a little egg that said “crack me”….They opened them up and pulled out a little note that was inside and Ian’s mom started squealing….haha it was hilarious and so great. (video coming soon!) And my mom was adorable and started shouting “where are my glasses?, where are my glasses?” and finally she made out the word “grandparents” and burst into tears. It was seriously the best and I am so happy we waited and were able to tell them at the same time.
